There are some tools out there like Mod Managers that make it a little easier, but the most exact way to get them working is to understand the installation process and try it manually. The latter is able to work with the Steam Workshop, while Dark Souls requires players to go through each part of the installation on their own.
Modding a Dark Souls game is a different beast than, say, modding The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
